Artists with Fine Art Fair and Juried Show in the South Bay

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (August 10, 2016) –For the second consecutive year, the South Bay will showcase area artists and support local service projects with a dynamic community event, Rejoice in Art! Fine Art Fair and Exhibition, scheduled for October 14-15 at Riviera UMC, 375 Palos Verdes Blvd., Redondo Beach.

The free public event features more than 30 artists in tents and booths, inside and outside, selling their artwork in a family-friendly, fun atmosphere. A variety of artistic talents will be represented, ranging from original paintings in all media and styles to ceramics, mosaics, jewelry, photography, and textiles.

The weekend events also include a juried art show, opening reception and jazz concert, painting demonstrations, classes for the kids, food, live entertainment, a handcrafted gifts/goods boutique and opportunity drawings for original artwork.

“Following a successful first-time festival, we are back with an expanded and even more energetic art affair for the community to enjoy,” said Lynn Attig, director, Rejoice in Art! “Our goal is to rejoice in the beauty and inspiration of our ocean-side environment and to celebrate the many talented fine artists who live here.”

On Friday, October 14, from 5 to 7 p.m., the public is invited to view more than sixty original paintings on display at the opening reception of “An Ocean View II,” an exclusive juried exhibition featuring seascapes by California fine artists, many from the South Bay, Torrance and Palos Verdes areas. Artworks have been juried in by esteemed artist Stephen Mirich (www.mirich.net), a life member and past president of the San Pedro Art Association and a signature member of the California Art Club (est. 1909) where he sits on the advisory board and served as vice president (1997-2003).

Mirich also will select the winners of the exhibition, with $1,000 in prize money to be awarded at the opening reception. Twelve paintings sold at last year’s opening, so collectors are encouraged to arrive early for the best selection. (After opening weekend, the exhibition will continue until the end of October during select gallery hours.)

Immediately following Friday’s opening reception, Dawn Brooks & Friends will present “Blue in Green: The Varying Colors of Jazz,” from 7 to 8:30 p.m., marking the first of Riviera UMC’s 2016-2017 free musical concert series.

Three free painting demonstrations will be offered during the fair, including a pastel demo by Mike Ishikawa at 3 p.m. Friday; a watercolor demo by Frances Nichols at 11 a.m. Saturday; and an oil painting demo by Mario Mirkovich at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Live musical entertainment will be provided throughout the two days, including a concert at 2:30 p.m. Saturday by master pianist Jack Ramsey. Additional Saturday festivities include an opportunity drawing for original artwork, along with kids’ art lessons and show by Canvas & Clay, Redondo Beach.

All Rejoice in Art! activities include free admission and free parking, purchasable box lunches and refreshments. Art Fair hours are Friday, Noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit Riviera UMC’s outreach projects, along with its art and music programs. Riviera UMC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

“We encourage people of all ages to come enjoy this second annual event!” Attig said.
